Kern County Mexican Settlement 150 Year Celebration by Rachel Arias. Rachel is a long time member of KCGS. She also belonged to Paph years earlier. She has researched her ancestry for years. Her knowledge of local history in regards to her Mexican heritage is of the highest level. So much so that in 2015 she was instrumental in organizing a major project for KCGS. It is the “Sonoran Project”. Three programs were presented by her and others she included. She organized a photo shoot of over 250 people she gathered together of descendants of Pioneer Mexican families. She is co-author of a book that will be presented to the public on information gathered to tell the story of the Mexican settlement and give valuable information to anyone researching their ancestry. Up until now little has been written on the Mexican settlement of Kern County. While she makes no claim to being a historian or a writer, she has the knowledge of her family and other families to do just that. Her grandmother Trinadad Perez Ozuna said to Rachel years ago through conversations they had. This quote says it all.
“ASI MAS LA QUE QUIERE, QUE LA QUE PUEDE”
“MY MOM COULD WRITE AND DIDN'T,
I COULD NOT WRITE PERFECT BUT ATTEMPTED”
